I love black shade on my eyes, as kohl, eyeliner, mascara and eyeshadow. I don’t use black as full lid color, but I use it to set my eyeliner and kohl on upper and lower lash lines. I got MAC Carbon from their store at Ramee Mall, Chennai. The SA told me that this is the blackest eyeshadow MAC has.
The packing is quite impressive. The eyeshadow comes in a black sturdy plastic pan with transparent top. It’s quite travel friendly and is easy to use. There is no applicator provided with the eyeshadow. You have to carry a brush if you are travelling with this eyeshadow.
Price : Rs.900 for 1.5g
The SA told me that it has a shelf life of 3 years, but powder eyeshadow’s can be used even after that period.
My take on the product
The shade is a matte black one. But I found it quite dry while applying. However it can be blended without much hassle. The shade is not the blackest black as per the SA’s claim. The pigmentation disappointed me initially. The color pay off is just average. . It is a medium black which looks like grey if not layered.
With days passing, I found out that this can be a multipurpose product. Since it’s purely matte, it can be used as a brow powder too. I use this eyeshadow on a daily basis for the past 6 months and still I have not finished even ½ of the quantity.
I use it to keep my liner or kajal in tact for a long time and give a smudged look. It stays for a long time of about 6-7 hours with some amount of fading. I have not used it as a full lid color till now. Since my lids are very oily, without using a primer, most eyeshadow’s tend to crease and this is no exception. However, I am happy with the way it gives me a smudged kohled eyes look and keeps my kajal and liner for longer time without getting faded.
In the picture you can see MAC Carbon on my upper lids as eyeliner and as brow color. It is a soft black which is great for soft smokey makeup look.
What I like about MAC Carbon :
- Matte finish
- Sturdy travel friendly packing
- Staying power is decent
- Can be used as eyeshadow, liner and brow color
- Holds the kajal/liner for loner time when used on the upper and lower lash line.
- Doesn’t give a patchy or uneven look
- Doesn’t irritate the eyes.
- Very good for soft smokey eye look.
What I don’t like about MAC Carbon:
- The pigmentation!
- Slight creasing when used on oily lids as eyeshadow without primer.
- The price is too high for the quantity and quality
- No applicator provided with the eyeshadow
I will give this a rating of 3.5/5.
Will I purchase again?
Well, I don’t think I will. Since I can get black matte eyeshadows from many other brands with a lower price, I will try to get some other brand next time.
